Does this remove location data from the original file?

The original file is unchanged. The downloaded PNG is made from pixels and does not copy the original EXIF GPS record.

Does removing metadata make a photo anonymous?

No. The photo itself can reveal people, places, signs or documents, and the filename can reveal information. Review all of those before sharing.

Will the download look exactly the same?

It uses the browser-decoded pixels and a lossless PNG export. Browser color conversion can affect appearance, original color profiles are not retained, and an animated source exports only one decoded frame.
