# 11 × 14 inch Photo Print Size Calculator

Check the pixels needed for an 11x14 photo enlargement, estimate effective PPI after cropping, and preserve important edges when framing a restored portrait.

## Pixel dimensions for 11 × 14 inch prints

Paper dimensions: 279.4 × 355.6 mm, or 27.94 × 35.56 cm.

Required pixels = print dimensions in inches × pixels per inch (PPI), rounded up. These comparison values are planning targets; follow your print provider's requirements.

Pixel requirements, short edge × long edge| Print resolution | Pixel dimensions |
| --- | --- |
| 150 PPI | 1,650 × 2,100 px |
| --- |
| 240 PPI | 2,640 × 3,360 px |
| --- |
| 300 PPI | 3,300 × 4,200 px |
| --- |

PPI describes the image on paper. The printer's ink-dot DPI and a scanner's capture DPI are different measurements. Changing a DPI metadata tag alone does not add image detail.

## Will your image fit this print?

Enter the original file's pixel dimensions. This calculator checks both orientations and uses no uploads.

Image width (pixels)Image height (pixels)

Fill paper (crop)**300 PPI**

Image area removed**15.2%**

Pixels after crop (short × long edge)**3,300 × 4,200 px**

Fit whole image (borders)**9.3 × 14 in at 353.6 PPI**

Proportions only, shown upright. The fill illustration uses a centered crop; your lab may position or trim it differently.

These are geometric estimates. They do not measure sharpness or simulate your printer's crop position, margins or bleed.

## Crop, borders and framing

An 11 × 14 enlargement has an 11:14 ratio, so a 2:3 portrait needs a substantial crop to fill it. The visible opening of a mount may be smaller than the sheet of paper. Decide whether preserving the full scene matters more than a borderless result, then check the mount opening and order a proof before the final wall print.

## A worked example

A 3300 × 4950 portrait can fill an 11 × 14 print at 300 PPI after cropping to 3300 × 4200 pixels. This removes about 15.2% of the image area. Fit mode keeps the whole portrait at about 9.3 × 14 inches, leaving side borders.

## Can I use my 8 × 10 print file for an 11 × 14 enlargement?

You can, but check the remaining pixels and crop. A 2400 × 3000 file fills 11 × 14 at about 214.3 PPI and needs a small crop. That calculation does not guarantee visible sharpness; inspect a proof from the chosen printer.

## Prepare your restored photograph

Keep an untouched scan. Review faces, writing and fine details before printing an AI edit. A larger pixel count can include inferred detail; it does not certify historical accuracy. Order a small proof before a valuable enlargement.
