# YouTube Channel Banner Size: Prepare a 2560×1440 Image

Prepare 2560×1440 YouTube channel art, compare a photo crop with borders, and review the official banner minimum and text-area guidance before upload.

## Which dimensions should you use?

YouTube recommends 2560×1440 pixels for channel banners, especially on TV. Its minimum upload canvas is 2048×1152 at 16:9, and the banner file must be 6 MB or smaller.

## Check the crop and prepare your image

Free and processed on this device. No account, credits or upload. Your original file is unchanged.

Calculate from pixel dimensions, or choose a photo for an actual preview and download. This prepares the image canvas; check file-size limits and the destination’s final crop separately.

## Compose this image

At the minimum canvas, YouTube specifies a 1235×338 safe area for text and logos. This calculator does not draw or enforce that safe area.

Use the wide central region for the channel name; a subject near the top can disappear in a shorter device crop.

Review TV, computer and mobile previews in Studio before publishing channel art.

## A worked example

A 3000×2000 source fills this 2560×1440 canvas with a crop of about 3000×1688 source pixels, retaining 84.4% of its area. Filling needs no enlargement. Filling prepares the full banner canvas, but the device crop is an additional review step.

## Before you upload

- Separate the background scene from essential channel text.
- Check the actual safe-area template for your chosen upload dimensions.
- Inspect all available Studio device previews and file bytes.

“Keep whole image” is also called fit or contain; it adds white borders instead of trimming the scene. The exporter sets pixel dimensions and placement. It does not enforce platform byte limits or predict every device’s display crop. ## Questions about YouTube Channel Banner

### Will the whole banner appear on every device?

No. YouTube uses the same image across devices and shows different portions. Export dimensions alone cannot keep edge content visible.

### Can I use a thin website header as channel art?

A thin header will need large borders or a substantial crop/enlargement to fill the banner canvas. Recompose the artwork when important text is already near its edges.
