# X Header Size: Prepare a 1500×500 Image

Prepare a 1500×500 X header with a crop-versus-contain preview. Keep a slogan or key subject clear of edges and review the actual account display.

## Which dimensions should you use?

X recommends 1500×500 pixels for a header image. Its help page notes that display differences can crop about 60 pixels at the top and bottom even at the recommended dimensions.

## Check the crop and prepare your image

Calculate from pixel dimensions, or choose a photo for an actual preview and download. This prepares the image canvas; check file-size limits and the destination’s final crop separately.

## Compose this image

Keep essential text away from the top and bottom edges rather than treating the entire strip as always visible.

Check the header next to your avatar in X; the canvas preview does not reproduce the account layout.

A conventional photograph may work best as a carefully chosen central band.

## A worked example

A 2400×1600 source fills this 1500×500 canvas with a crop of about 2400×800 source pixels, retaining 50.0% of its area. Filling needs no enlargement. Fill removes half of the source height before any further platform display crop.

## Before you upload

- Review the central strip before choosing fill.
- Keep the account's main message readable without edge content.
- Inspect the header in the actual browser and mobile account view.

“Keep whole image” is also called fit or contain; it adds white borders instead of trimming the scene. The exporter sets pixel dimensions and placement. It does not enforce platform byte limits or predict every device’s display crop. [Compress a copy](<https://restorebunny.com/tools/image-compress/>) if you need a smaller file, then check the destination’s preview.

## Questions about X Header

### Why does X crop a correctly sized header?

The platform's help article describes monitor and browser differences. Correct canvas dimensions do not guarantee that every edge appears in every view.

### Can I resize a profile photo into a header?

You can fit it, but a square portrait needs substantial borders or a wide crop. Use a scene or separate artwork designed for a strip.
