Quick answer

## The short version

Photograph the whole garment, back, labels, fabric, measurement setup and every known flaw. Record how measurements were taken and keep colour and condition consistent across the set. Avoid edits that remove stains, reshape the garment or invent fit.

## Choose a presentation that answers the garment's questions

A hanger view shows drape differently from a flat lay. A worn view adds a person's shape and styling. Choose a repeatable main presentation, then add the views required for construction and condition. Do not assume a model's appearance establishes how the garment will fit another person.

Before shooting, record the stock ID, tagged size, material information visible on the label and known wear. Keep unreadable or missing labels explicit. eBay requires photos to represent the actual item accurately. That is a platform-specific rule and a useful reason to inspect every edited delivery image against the garment you are selling.

## A nine-view shirt checklist

- 01 — Complete front, with sleeves and hem visible in a neutral setup.
- 02 — Complete back, photographed under the same light.
- 03 — Brand and size label, legible without invented sharpening.
- 04 — Composition and care label where present; include all relevant panels rather than one clipped word.
- 05 — Fabric texture and pattern, showing actual wear and colour.
- 06 — Collar, cuffs and fastenings, especially areas with visible use.
- 07 — Chest-width measurement setup with a readable tape, followed by the measured value in the description.
- 08 — Length measurement setup with its start and end points identified.
- 09 — Each known stain, hole or repair with a contextual view linking it to the garment.

## Worked example: a 52 cm flat chest measurement

Suppose you lay a shirt flat and measure 52 cm between the underarm points without stretching it. Record that method and value. Doubling it gives a geometric 104 cm circumference approximation, but it is not a guarantee of fit, ease or how the garment sits on a body. Do not silently substitute that approximation for the actual flat measurement.

If the tape curves or is partly hidden by a fold, the photo does not support a clear reading. Reposition it and show both endpoints. Take the measure image separately from your clean front view. Keep a note for other dimensions and any stretch, rather than using an overlay that a destination's photo policy may prohibit.

## Keep colour and condition consistent

1. Use the same neutral background and light for front, back and details. Inspect the garment directly before deciding that a warm image needs correction.
2. Check focus on labels and fabric. Retake blurred detail rather than trying to reconstruct letters or weave.
3. Export upright copies with proportional resizing. Compare the saved files with the source and avoid saturation changes that alter the apparent colour.
4. If simplifying the background, inspect cuffs, lace, loose threads and holes. A mask should not close an opening or remove a worn edge.
5. Review the full sequence with the written description. Confirm that every known flaw is both pictured clearly and described.

## Keep the inventory separate from attractive styling

Name files with the stock ID and view role, such as SHIRT-032-front.jpg and SHIRT-032-cuff-wear.jpg. This reduces the chance that similar garments receive the wrong set. Keep original captures until the item transaction and any later questions are resolved under your own workflow.

Do not remove stains or reshape a garment with generative tools for a used-item listing. If an interpretive lifestyle mockup is allowed by your destination, it still cannot substitute for the real item's condition views; check the current rules and describe it accurately. This guide is a documentation method, not a claim that any image set guarantees a sale or eliminates returns.

## FAQs

Does doubling a flat measurement guarantee the garment's fit?

No. State the measured width and method. Fabric, stretch, construction and preferred ease affect fit.

Can I remove stains from the photos to make a cleaner listing?

Keep real stains and wear visible. Retake poor captures and correct presentation without changing the condition being sold.
